At the January meeting discussion focused on establishing a
process for installing subdivision street lights in neighborhoods without them. At the September
meeting staff reported that in 2006 a long standing goal of completing the installation of priority
street lighting on all intersections with state, county and arterial City streets was realized, and
suggested that an annual budget of $15,000 be allocated for the installation of priority lights in
other locations deemed to benefit the general public. Direction to staff provided from both these
meetings by City Council was to revise the street lighting policy. Mr. Jankowski indicated
included in the Council's packet is a draft for a revised policy as well as a copy of the current
policy, which was adopted in October of 1992. The new policy includes a process for
neighborhoods without subdivision street lights to petition for their installation under the same
special assessment process, which the City utilizes for other public improvements including
Public Works Committee /October 17, 2006
