City Council Highlights <br />June 9, 2026 <br />Councilmembers in attendance were: Mayor <br />Heineman, Councilmembers Buscher, Olson, <br />Peters, Riley, Specht, and Stewart. <br />Approve Agenda <br />The agenda was amended to add case 7.2, <br />Authorization to Hire Part-time Communications <br />Specialist. <br />Presentation <br />This regular City Council meeting began with <br />two presentations: the first was an introduction <br />of the new City Engineer, Hafedh Hlel. The next <br />presentation was the 2025 Annual Comprehensive <br />Financial Report by the City's auditing firm, LB <br />Carlson. The firm issued an unmodified or clean <br />opinion on the City's 2025 financial statements. <br />Consent Agenda <br />The City Council unanimously passed 13 <br />Consent Agenda items. <br />Council Business Included Two <br />Cases <br />The first case was to Adopt Resolution #26-136 <br />Declaring the City of Ramsey will not fly the State <br />Flag. At the May 26 regular meeting, there was a <br />motion to bring forward a resolution not to fly a <br />State Flag at City Hall. Minnesota Statute requires <br />only the State Capitol Grounds to have the flag <br />continuously flown. This resolution memorializes <br />the previously passed motion. The resolution <br />passed with a vote of 5-2. <br />The final case concerned Authorization to Hire <br />a Part-time Communications Specialist. This <br />case failed to pass at the May 26 meeting with a <br />3-4 vote. Councilmember Olson requested that <br />this case be brought forward for reconsideration. <br />The purpose of this position is to assist with <br />day-to-day City communications, including, <br />but not limited to, social media and website <br />management, ADA compliance, content creation, <br />and cross -departmental support to ensure <br />continuity, consistency, and responsiveness across <br />communication platforms. The motion passed <br />with a 4-3 vote. <br />View the entire agenda. <br />Watch the City Council meeting on QCTV. <br />Ramsey's Adopt -a -Flag Program <br />This year will mark America's <br />Semiquincentennial, celebrating <br />250 years since the signing of the <br />Declaration of Independence. A <br />great way to honor the occasion is by <br />sponsoring an American flag at the City <br />of Ramsey. Flags are currently lining <br />Sunwood Drive NW near the Ramsey <br />Municipal Center. Ramsey Public <br />Works crews place the flags on light <br />poles shortly before Memorial Day and <br />take them down after Veterans Day. <br />Participants can choose between two donation levels: the Friends - <br />of -the -Flag Level for just $50 or the generous Patriot Level for <br />$500.
