5. 7. <br />CC Regular Session <br />Meeting Date: <br />07/14/2026 <br />Primary Strategic Plan Initiative: Improve the safety and mobility of transportation corridors. <br />Title: <br />Authorize Letter of Support for Anoka County's Application for Highway Safety Improvement Program Funds for Safety <br />Improvements at the CSAH 57/Sunfish Lake Boulevard and Sunwood Drive Intersection <br />Purpose/Background: <br />Purpose: <br />The purpose of this case is to authorize staff to submit a Letter of Support for Anoka County's application for Highway <br />Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) funds for safety improvements at the CSAH 57/Sunfish Lake Boulevard and Sunwood <br />Drive intersection. <br />Background: <br />Anoka County is preparing to submit an application for MnDOT's 2026 Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) to <br />fund safety improvements at the CSAH 57 (Sunfish Lake Blvd) & Sunwood Drive intersection for State Fiscal Years 2030- <br />2031. <br />The project includes construction of a single -lane roundabout, along with pedestrian crossing and sidewalk/trail connectivity <br />improvements. These upgrades will help reduce crashes, calm vehicle speeds, and improve safety for people walking and <br />biking near Sunwood Drive and surrounding neighborhoods. <br />If awarded HSIP funding, the project will be added to Anoka County's Highway Improvement Plan for the year allocated. At <br />that time, the County and City would work together to develop a Joint Powers Agreement (JPS) outlining cost participation, <br />coordination roles, and long-term maintenance responsibilities. <br />Demonstrated coordination between Anoka. County and their partner cities strengthens the competitiveness of HSIP <br />applications and highlights our shared commitment to community safety. On July 9th, Anoka County submitted the attached <br />request for support letter, along with the attached draft letter of support for city signature. The City Administrator will sign <br />the letter of support following Council approval. The signed letter of support will then be submitted to Anoka County. <br />Time Frame/Observations/Alternatives: <br />Alternatives: <br />Alternative #1 — Authorize staff to submit a signed Letter of Support for Anoka County's application for Highway Safety <br />Improvement Program (HSIP) funds for safety improvements at the CSAH 57/Sunfish Lake Boulevard and Sunwood Drive <br />intersection. <br />Funding Source: <br />No funds are required as a result of this case.
