Councilmember Peters introduced the following resolution and moved for its adoption: <br /> <br />RESOLUTION #26-174 <br /> <br />RESOLUTION ACCEPTING DONATION OF COMMUNITY ART RESOURCE <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Ramsey City Council and the Park & Recreation Commission recognize <br />the importance of parks, trails, and public places, together with beautiful, meaningful, <br />engaging built environments as essential to the quality of life for Ramsey residents; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City’s strategic plan calls for to ‘Strengthen and enhance our <br />identity, brand and image’; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Community Art, accessible within the public realm brings forth these <br />favorable qualities, enhances our sense of place and facilitates community engagement; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Ramsey Community Foundation’s vision and mission statements <br />mirror the City’s goals as it relates to civic engagement, aspirations for an attractive <br />community and social wellbeing and belonging—made possible through accessible public art <br />where people live; and. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, MN State Statute 465.03 requires that a city pass a resolution that <br />accepts any donations including the generous contribution of the Community Art Resource, <br />fully funded by the Ramsey Community Foundation. <br /> <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY <br />OF RAMSEY, ANOKA COUNTY, STATE OF MINNESOTA: <br /> <br />1) That, the Council hereby accepts the donation of a Community Art Resource valued in <br />excess of $8,000 from the Ramsey Community Foundation, and as recommended by the <br />th <br />Park & Recreation Commission on January 9, 2025; and <br /> <br />2) That, the Community Art Plan may be consulted regularly following adoption of this <br />Resolution by both city leadership and residents, inspire on-going community <br />engagement in place-making and beautification, establish worthy public art goals, and <br />identify potential community-oriented art projects in the City; and <br /> <br />3) That, nothing in the Community Art Plan would point to the requirement that art in <br />the public realm would necessarily be solely publicly funded—and the art plan does list <br />funding opportunities from non-municipal sources, including potential fund-raising by <br />the Foundation. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />
