CASE # j

REVIEW 2007 STORM SEWER IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS
By: Steven Jankowski, City Engineer

Background:

The 2007 to 2011 Capital Improvement Plan contains no major storm sewer projects for
2007 other than annual sedimentation pond cleaning. The City has in recent years been
reviewing the drainage conditions within the areas scheduled for work associated with the
annual street maintenance program. The Public Works department has identified a list of
locations which should be investigated for drainage improvements within this year's
proj ects. In addition sevetalproblem areas were reported to staff as a result of the
resident meeting which was held on January 31,2007. .

Attached are maps identifying the location each of the drainage issues along with a
corresponding list containing a description of problem and remedy being considered. In
addition two improvements not related to storm water drainage are also identified on the
maps and list. These both consist of improving temporary cuI de sacs at the ends of
streets that are planned for future extensions.

Funding:

Staffwill need to investigate each of these potential storm sewer improvements to
prepare an estimate of the cost. At this point the goal is to identify a complete list of
improvements to be considered. The cost of the storm water related improvements will be
financed from the Storm Water Utility. The work associated with the cuI de sac
improvements will be performed by the Public Works Department and be fmanced as a
portion of the street maintenance program preparatory costs.

Action:

This case is for informational purposes no action is required.

Reviewed by:
Interim City Administrator
Public Works Director
Fire Chief
Public Works Street Supervisor

PW: 02/20/07

-181-
