Executive Summary <br /> <br />The Economic Development Commission worked with Gerald Wenner of the Minnesota Department <br />of Trade and Economic Development and City Staff to develop recommendations for goals and <br />strategies for the City of Ramsey's Economic Development over the next five years. The goals <br />identified through this process are listed below in order of priority. The list includes strategies to <br />accomplish the goals. <br /> <br />Economic Development <br />Continue to develop and expand Ramsey's industrial parks <br />Develop a business retention, expansion & attraction program <br /> <br />Planning <br />Hire Community & Economic Development Staff <br />Merge the EDA with the EDC <br />Develop policies to guide economic development financing incentives <br /> <br />Infrastructure <br />Provide City services to vacant commercial industrial land <br />Develop and redevelop the Highway 10 corridor. <br />Develop mass transit <br />Identify Mississippi River bridge crossing location <br />Expand MUSA boundary <br /> <br />Marketing <br />Work with consultants and existing businesses to establish a community-wide marketing image <br />Establish a community center task-force <br />Continue efforts to establish a Ramsey ZIP code. <br />Promote parks, recreation & trails <br />Promote industrial park <br />Develop location specific marketing <br /> <br />Education & Recreation <br />Work with area colleges to develop customized training <br />Assist area colleges in designing & providing classes that are in greatest demand by residents <br />Build on existing City community events <br />Promote rural & urban city atmosphere (similar to Elk River - Where city and country flow together) <br />Promote rivers, wetlands and oak canopies <br />Develop a community center <br /> <br />Housing <br />Promote development of a variety of housing styles including multi-family, single-family and senior housing <br />Coordinate EDA/HRA activities with the Anoka County HRA <br />Encourage more executive-style, single-family housing development <br /> <br />There are several recommendations which deserve special mention. These include purchasing <br />additional property to develop and expand the industrial park, merging the EDA with the EDC, <br />identifying and cleaning up brown field sites, developing a business retention, expansion and attraction <br />program, and creating a Community Center Task Force. <br /> <br /> <br />
