Further discussion: Mayor Gamec stated Mr. Meyenburg has been an excellent employee and
very helpful. Interim City Administrator Nelson stated Mr. Meyenburg has been a real asset in
the building. Having an employee in the building at night makes a lot of sense and there is
plenty for him to do. Mr. Meyenburg is doing a great job and she is happy to move him forward
off of probation.
Councilmember Strommen left the Council dais.
Case #6: Resolution Accepting the Resignation of an Environmental Policy Board
Member and Appointing a new Board Member
Mayor Gamec indicated the recommended candidate for appointment to the Environmental
Policy Board has requested that her application be withdrawn. The proposed resolution should
be amended to remove the appointment of a new board member.
Motion by Councilmember Elvig, seconded by Councilmember Olson, to adopt resolution #07-
02 -074 accepting the resignation of an Environmental Policy Board Member.
Motion carried. Voting Yes: Mayor Gamec, Councilmembers Elvig, Olson, Dehen, Jeffrey, and
Look. Voting No: None. Absent: Councilmember Strommen.
Councilmember Strommen returned to the Council dais.
Case #7: Report from Public Works Committee
1) Consider Request for Placement of Monument Sign in Street ROW
City Engineer Jankowski stated Oakwood Land Development submitted a sign permit
application for an entrance /monument sign for the Brookfield Subdivision. The proposed
location of the sign is in the center median on 170' Avenue NW, the main entrance to the
development off of Nowthen Blvd, which falls within the public road right -of -way. The sign
permit has not been issued because currently, City Code does not allow signs to be placed or
constructed within the public road right -of -way. The City Attorney has recommended against
permitting a sign in the right -of -way. Planning Staff has acknowledged that the sign would be an
aesthetic benefit. The consensus of the Public Works Committee was that the developer should
proceed with applying for a conditional use permit through the Planning Commission to place
the sign in the right -of -way, with conditions included in the permit.
No action required.
2) Consider Modification to the Municipal State Aid System
City Engineer Jankowski stated staff reviewed the existing MSA system with the Committee and
proposed the addition of a new segment, 173 Avenue (County Highway 63) between
Armstrong Blvd and Variolite Street to the City's MSA system. In order to have sufficient
mileage available to be able to add this segment in it will be necessary to remove 0.45 miles
City Council / March 13, 2007
