Motion by Mayor Gamec and seconded by Councilmember Beyer to authorize funding the storm cleanup for the Insurance Trust Fund in an amount up to $37,700. Motion carried. Voting Yes: Mayor Gamec, Councilmembers Beyer, Haas Steffen and Zimmerman. Voting No: None. Absent: CouncilmemberBeahen. Case #7: Report from Personnel Committee Administrative Services Manager Waite Smith reported that the Personnel Committee met earlier and discussed two issues as follows: 1) Authorization to Hire Public Works Maintenance Worker Staff has terminated the newly hired Public Works Maintenance Worker and the Personnel Committee recommended that Council ratify such action. The Committee is also recommending that Council authorize hiring John Nelson, the person currently at the top of the list, contingent on successfully passing the background checks and physical examination, at the rate of $10.65 per hour. Consensus of the Council was to ratify staffs actions in discharging Mike Hanson. Motion by Councilmember Beyer and seconded by Mayor Gamec to authorize hiring John Nelson to the position of Public Works Maintenance Worker, effective June 15, 1998, at a salary of $10.65 per hour. Motion carded. Voting Yes: Mayor Gamec, Councilmembers Beyer, Haas Steffen and Zimmerman. Voting No: None. Absent: CouncilmemberBeahen. 2) Discuss Police Department Needs Ms. Waite Smith reported that no action was taken on this issue as the Committee has asked for additional information.
