Councilmember Pearson introduced the following resolution and moved for its adoption:

RESOLUTION #06-11-350

RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE PLACEMENT OF THE ORDER FOR THE 2007
SQUAD CARS FOR THE POUCEDEPARTMENT

WHEREAS, the proposed budget for 2007 includes four new squad cars and one
administrative car for the Police Department; and

WHEREAS, recent information has come forward from Ford Motor Company,
indicating that they are manufacturing only a certain percentage of Ford Crown Victoria Police
Interceptors in the year 2008 and it is anticipated that some police agencies nationwide may need
to seek other sources for their police cruiser needs; and

WHEREAS, it has also been learned that currently in the State of Minnesota, some
metropolitan police agencies have waited over six months for their 2006 cruisers and this delay is
expected into 2007; and

WHEREAS, staff believes that a delay in the delivery of the replacement primary squad
cars for ramsey would put the City in a position of undue strain, racking up mileage and
maintenance costs on the current vehicles and reducing the amount of resale on them; and

WHEREAS, if the City of Ramsey Police Department has to change away from the
Crown Victorias, they would need to buy new equipment that would likely be for a Dodge
Intrepid; the current equipment would not fit, and the cost would be much greater; and

WHEREAS, payments would not be made until the next calendar year, but it would
allow the order to be placed to get Ramsey's name on the list; and

WHEREAS, this purchase would be under the State contract.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
RAMSEY, COUNTY OF ANOKA, STATE OF MINNESOTA, as follows:

I. That the City Council hereby authorizes the Police Department to place the order in 2006
for a total of (4) 2007 Squad Cards and (1) Fleet! Administrative vehicle.

2. That the order would be under the Minnesota State Patrol Contract, with the 2007 cost
not to exceed $110,000.

That the motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by
Councilmember Cook and upon vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor:

Mayor Gamec

RESOLUTION #06-11-350
Page 1 of2
