The applicants breed and show Shiba Inus, a small companion dog.
They generally have 4 or 5 adult dogs at any given time and average 2 litters a year with each
litter producing 3-4 puppies. The puppies are offered for sale at the age of 8 weeks; the City
defines an adult dog as one that was 3 months or 12 weeks of age. Therefore, in order to
maintain their 4 or 5 adult dogs plus one or two litters of puppies that might be over 12 weeks in
age before they are sold, the applicants requested a permit to keep a maximum of 15 adult dogs
and puppies on the property. The applicants indicated the dogs are kept indoors overnight and
submitted a fencing plan to identify how the dogs would be restricted to the property when they
are outdoors.

Public Hearing/Planning Commission/August 4, 1998
Page 1 of 2
