<br />Sign - Any letter, word or symbol, device, poster, picture, statuary, <br />reading matter, or representation in the nature of an advertisement, announcement, <br />message or visual communication, whether painted, posted, printed, affixed or <br />constructed, which is displayed outdoors for informational or communicative purposes. <br />Sign Area - That area within the marginal lines of the surface which bears <br />the advertisement, or in the case of messages, figures or symbols attached directly to any <br />part of a building, that area which is included in the smallest geometric shape which can <br />be made to circumscribe the message, figure or symbol displayed thereon. The stipulated <br />maximum sign area for a free standing or ground sign refers to a single facing. <br /> <br />Street Frontage - The proximity of a parcel of land to one (1) or more <br />streets. An interior lot has one (1) street frontage and a corner lot has two (2) such <br />frontages. <br /> <br />Temporary Sign - A sign which is erected or displayed for a limited <br />period oftime and not affixed to a Uniform Building Code (UBC) approved structure. <br /> <br />Wall Sign - Any sign which is affixed to a wall of any. building; This <br />definition includes individual letter signs and signs on mansards. <br /> <br />Window Sign - A sign installed inside a window, or any sign placed <br />within a building for the purpose of being visible from the public right-of-way. Jhis does <br />not include merchandise on display. <br /> <br />Zoning Administrator - The person charged with the administration and <br />enforcement of this Section. <br /> <br />9.12.03 <br /> <br />General Provisions <br /> <br />Subdivision 1. Address Sign. One (1) address sign shall be <br />required per main building in all districts in accordance with Section 8.02 of the Ramsey. <br />City.Code. <br /> <br />Subd. 2. <br /> <br />Bench Sign. Bench signs shall be permitted only at bus <br /> <br />stops. <br /> <br />Subd. 3. Ground Sign. A ground sign shall not project higher than <br />twenty-five (25) feet as measured from base of sign or grade of the nearest adjacent <br />roadway, whichever is lower. Any ground sign within fifty (50) feet of any intersection <br />of street right-of-way lines and/or driveway entrances shall have a minimum vertical <br />clearance of twelve (12) feet above the centerline of the pavement unless it can be shown <br />that it can comply with Subd. 5.b.l and 2 herein. <br /> <br />Subd. 4. Canopies or Marquees. 'Canopies and marquees shall be <br />considered to be an integral part of the structure to which they are an accessory. Signs <br />
