<br />~ <br /> <br />Community News <br /> <br />Anoka County Historical Society Sells <br />Limited Edition Model Covered Wagons <br />to Celebrate County's 150th Anniversary <br /> <br />The Anoka County Histori- <br />cal Society has produced a series <br />of limited edition, hand-made <br />wooden wagons to celebrate Anoka <br />County's 150th anniversary. Artist <br />Bob Johnson recently delivered the <br />first 50 of 150 wagons to sell at the <br />Anoka County History Center and <br />Library in Anoka. <br />These small wonders are <br />selling for $64.99, ($69.21 with tax) I <br />with the proceeds going to support <br />the Historical Society and the sesqui- <br />centennial celebration. The covered <br />wagons can be purchased at the <br />Anoka County History Center. Each <br />covered wagon is individually num- <br />bered and comes with a certificate of <br />authenticity. Johnson says that this <br />design will be retired at the end of <br />this limited production, and that the <br />drawings will be shredded after the <br />150th wagon is finished. Johnson <br />based his drawings from photographs <br /> <br /> <br />he researched for the proj ect. <br />Each wagon is made from <br />oak, harvested in Anoka County and <br />measures sixteen inches in length, <br />five and a half inches in width, and is <br />seven inches tall. The Anoka County <br />Sesquicentennial logo adorns each <br />wagon. <br />The 150th wagon will include <br />model horses, a pair of riders, as <br />well as tools and furniture loaded in <br />the bacl( of the wagon, similar to the <br /> <br />Articles contained on these pages and other areas of this newsletter are for the <br />purpose of providing il?fonnation about events or initiatives occurring in, or bordering, <br />the Ramsey cOlnmunity. The city does not necessarily endorse nor subscribe to the belie.fs, <br />values, or political affiliations of any of the organizations that may present infonnation in <br />this or other sections of the newsletter. <br /> <br />loads the early pioneers would <br />have brought with them to Anoka <br />County in the nineteenth century. <br />This one-of-a-kind wagon will <br />be auctioned off at the Historical <br />Society's annual barn dance on <br />Saturday, May 19 at the Anoka <br />County Fairgrounds - just one of <br />many events occurring the week- <br />end of May 18-20 at the fair- <br />--I grounds. These activities will be <br />preceded by the Anoka County <br />Sesquicentennial Wagon Train, which <br />begins its tour through Anoka County <br />on May 16, before landing at the <br />fairgrounds. <br />The Anoka County His- <br />torical Society, organized in 1934, is <br />headquartered in the Anoka County <br />History Center and Library at 2135 <br />Third Avenue North in Anoka.
