<br />Councilmember Elvig introduced the following resolution and moved for its adoption: <br /> <br />RESOLUTION #07-03-070 <br /> <br />RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE STATE OF MINNESOTA TO MODIFY <br />MINNESOTA STATUTE 169.14 SUBD. 2 CLAUSE 1 AND 7(C) TO ALLOW CITIES TO <br />ESTABLISH 30 MPH SPEED LIMITS IN RURAL RESIDENTIAL DISTRICTS. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Minnesota Statute 169.14 Subd. 2 Clause 1 sets the maximum speed limit <br />as 30 MPH in an urban district or on a town road in a rural residential district; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City of Ramsey finds that in the interest of public safety, that a speed <br />limit of 30 MPH should also be established in cities that have rural residential districts. <br /> <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />RAMSEY, ANOKA COUNTY, STATE OF MINNESOTA: <br /> <br />1) That the State of Minnesota modify Minnesota Statute 169.14 Subd. 2 Clause 1 and 7(C) <br />to be modified as follows: <br />. 169.14 Subd. 2 Clause (1) - 30 miles per hours in an urban district or on a town or <br />City street in a rural residential district. <br />. 169.14 Subd. 2 Clause 7@ - For the purposes of this subdivision. "rural residential <br />district" means the territory contiguous to and including any town road or City <br />street within a subdivision or part of land that is built up with dwelling houses at <br />interval ofless than 300 feet for a distance of one quarter mile or more. <br /> <br />The motion for adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Councilmember <br />Olson, and upon vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor thereof: <br /> <br />Mayor Gamec <br />Councilmember Elvig <br />Councilmember Olson <br />Councilemmber Dehen <br />Councilmember Jeffrey <br />Councilmember Look <br />Councilmember Strommen <br /> <br />and the following voted against the same: <br /> <br />none <br /> <br />and the following abstained: <br /> <br />none <br /> <br />and the following were absent: <br /> <br />none <br /> <br />RESOLUTION 07-03-070 <br />Page 1 of2. <br />
