<br />Councilmember <br /> <br />introduced the following resolution and moved for its adoption: <br /> <br />RESOLUTION # 07-05-_ <br /> <br />RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF PROMOTING ACTIVE LIVING WITHIN THE CITY <br />OF RAMSEY AND AUTHORIZE STAFF TO SUBMIT A PROPOSAL IN RESPONSE <br />TO BLUE CROSS BLUE SHIELD'S REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, according to the Anoka County Health Department, 27 percent of the <br />County's adult residents are obese; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the prevalence of overweight and obesity is increasing and threatens to <br />decrease the quality of life and health in Anoka County; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Blue Cross Blue Shield is seeking to partner with municipalities to <br />incorporate active living principles into their comprehensive plans to achieve an increase in <br />physical activity as a way of combating the imminent health risks and costs associated with <br />overweight and obesity; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City of Ramsey has a similar goal to maintain a high quality of life for <br />Ramsey residents; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Blue Cross Blue Shield is offering cities the opportunity to present <br />proposals to enter into a contract where BCBS would provide funding to update comprehensive <br />plans to incorporate active living principles regarding land use and transportation planning and <br />facilities development; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City of Ramsey is embarking on the Comprehensive Plan update <br />process; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City supports utilizing the Comprehensive Plan as a mechanism for <br />addressing public health by working with BCBS to incorporate healthful land use patterns, <br />facilities development, and park and recreation planning into the City's long-term vision. <br /> <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />RAMSEY, ANOKA COUNTY, STATE OF MINNESOTA, as follows: <br /> <br />That the Ramsey City Council hereby supports incorporating efforts to increase physical activity <br />into the Comprehensive Plan, and authorizes Staff to submit a proposal in response to Blue Cross <br />Blue Shield's RFP. <br /> <br />The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by <br />Councilmember , and upon vote being taken thereon, the following <br />voted in favor thereof: <br /> <br />-203- <br />
