City of Ramsey
Active Community Planning Proposal
Deadline: June 1, 2007
leveraged funds in excess of$500,000 from the Legislative Citizen Commission for MN Resources to acquire 64

acres of parkland land, and a half a mile of trail easements to connect residents in the northern third ofthe city.

In addition to the Master Trail Plan, the City partnered with Anoka County Parks and City of Anoka to

produce a feasibility study for the Mississippi West Trail system along the Mississippi River. The results of this

plan highlighted the need to identify specifically where the Mississippi River crossing will be located to connect

Anoka County, Hennepin County, and the Tree Rivers Park District parks and trails. Additionally, an ad~hoc

committee was formed to facilitate the designation of this trail as a part of the Metropolitan Council's Regional

Trail system. The study will further call attention to the importance of the connection with Ramsey Town Center

and multi-modal system.

Also, the city's subdivision regulations have improved recently to require developers to construct any trail

listed as "proposed" in our Park and Trail Plan. The Sidewalk Ordinance now requires developers to install

sidewalks throughout new neighborhoods. Our public works department supports the effort to encourage use of

these sidewalks and trails year-round by providing snow removal services on the 30+ miles of trail and sidewalks

within the city.

-211-
