C~8

CONSIDER RECEIVING PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS FOR WELL HOUSE
NO.4
By: Leonard Linton, Civil Engineer II

Background:

The Comprehensive Water System Study was completed in 2004 to help the city
establish priorities, plan, fund and implement improvements to the Municipal water
supply system. The Study identified the need to add wells 7 and 8 to keep pace with the
demand as new homes are constructed.and added to the system.

Wells 7 and 8 were authorized and being constructed at this time. Connection of the
wells to the municipal system requires construction of a Well House. The well house will
be constructed adjacent to Well No.7 on which is on the Fire Station No.1 site on
Armstrong Boulevard. The well house will be in the location where the drilling rig was
set up so construction could not take place simultaneously. The rig has been moved so
the site is available for construction ofthe well house which will enclose chlorination and
fluoridation equipment along with pump controls for Wells 7 & 8. Staffhas reviewed the
plans and specifications for conformance to City Standards and the plans are found to
meet the requirements.

The bids will be advertised per state law and opened on June 21, 2007. The bids will be
brought to the June 26 City Council meeting for authorization to award a contract for the
work. .

The engineers estimate for the Project is $179,000. The Comprehensive Water Study
budgeted $1,870,000 for construction of Wells 7 & 8 and a pump house for each well.
The engineering services for Wells 7 & 8 and the pump house are $77,950. The budgeted
amounts contemplated land acquisItion which was not required since well 7 is on City
property and well 8 is in a dedicated utility easement. The contract for construction of
Wells 7 & 8 is $711,822, adding the $179,000 for this project and the engineering costs
brings the total to $968,722, approximately half ofthe budgeted amount.

Funding Source:

The funding source will be the Water Utility Fund.

Staff Recommendation:

Staff recommends receiving the plans and specifications for Well House No.4 and
authorizing advertisement for Bids.

Council Action:

-75-
