Nelson, Asst. City Administrator

Background:

On October 24th, 2002 the Town Center Task Force interviewed Mary Jo Olson, Will Thompsen, and
Steve Sis to fill the vacancy on the Task Force created by the resignation on Don Kveton. The Task
Force was impressed by all three of the candidates and their credentials. After extensive discussion,
the Task Force made a recommendation to the City Council to expand the Task Force from seven
members to nine members and appoint all three candidates to the Town Center Task Force. That
recommendation was presented to the City Council at their regular meeting of November 19th, 2002.
After significant discussion, the item was tabled until the first meeting in January. Central to the City
Council discussion on 11/19/02 was the fact that two of the current members of the Town Center Task
Force were elected to the City Council during the general election on November 4th. The Council
consensus was that the structure of the Town Center Task Force needed to be discussed by the 2003.
City Council. Discussion of this issue as well as the Council's role on the task force took place at a
work session with the newly elected members on December 17th, 2002. The concensus of the
discussion on 12/17/02 was that a member of the Council serve as a liaison to the Town Center Task
Force and the recommendation as that A1 Pearson serve as the liaison for 2003. That recommendation
is formalized in the Organizational Resolution that is on the agenda for approval this evening.
Therefore, before you this evening is a standing recommendation from the Town Center Task Force for
the appointment of three new members and their respective letters of interest submitted last fall.

Staff Recommendation:
Motion to recommend that the City Council adopt a resolution, based upon the recommendation from
the Town Center Task Force, appointing Mary Jo Olson, Will Thompson, and Steve Sis to the Town
Center Task Force.

Committee Action:

Motion to recommend that the City Council adopt a resolution appointing Mary Jo Olson, Will
Thompsen, and Steve Sis to the Ramsey Town Center Task Force. \%

Reviewed by:
City Administrator
Community Development Director
Principal Planner

PC: 01/14/2003

-309-
