-128- POLICE DEPARTMENT ISSUES Case//8: Department Structure DiscussiOn Police Chief Way reviewed the cun'ent structure of the Police Department and what he was recommending to be changed. It was his recommendation to change First Sergeant Dwyer's position to a Captain's position to better define the Number # 2 position. The pay would not change in that situation. The other change he would like to make is eliminating the Corporal position with a Sergeant position so that there is a Sergeant that oversees each shift. As a Corporal the person is very limited to what they can and can't do. The change in that position would amount to a cost increase of about $60.00 a month. MotiOn by Board Member Paplham, seconded by Board Member Pearson, to recommend that the POlice Department structm'e be amended as presented bY Chief Way. Furtlier discussion: Mayor Gamec inquired as to where the additional funds would come from for the change. Police Chief Way replied that the additional costs have already been budgeted for 2003. Motion carried. Voting Yes: Chairperson Anderson, Board Members Pearson, Gamec, Lewandowski, Paplham,'and Ward. Voting No: None. COMMITTEE INPUT 1) Students Walking to School Board Member Gamec inquired as to how it has been going with kids Walking to school this year. Board Member Paplham replied that the Police Department has not had one incident yet this year. Police Chief Way stated that he would have preferred that the speed limit would have been reduced all day rather than before school and after school. Board Member Gamec stated that he would look into that issue further. Board Member Gamec inquired as to how it has been going with walkers to the school. Paplham have not had.one incident.
