The site contained a fenced in
yard with two buildings and a fuel storage tank all utilized by the previous owner for the purposes
of recycling some types of aluminum. Part of the purchase agreement was to allow The
Schwartzman Company to remove the buildings from site at their cost. -

Later in the year the Schwartzman Company advised the city they would not be disassembling the
buildings. In November city staff demolitioned and disposed of the smaller of the two buildings.
A quote from a local excavator was also acquired for the sum of $12,000 for the demolition of the
remaining building.

In December the Nathan Madsen Company gave city staff a quote to remove the building from
site at no cost with the building being the compensation for work being done. Staff decided to
take advantage of the unseasonable warm weather and no snow and allowed the building to be
demolitioned, Work was completed in December.

Staff Recommendation:

Council ratify the action taken by staff to remove buildings from the Public Works site in
December.

Council Action:

Motion to accept Public Works Directors recommendation.

Reviewed By:
Assistant City Administrator
Public Works Director.

CC: 01/28/2003

5

-27-
