I I I I I I I I I I I I I PC# CONSIDER APPOINTMENT TO PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION By: Givonna Reed, Interim Human Resources Manager Background: As of the October 31, 2002, the term expired for Parks and Recreation Commission member Todd Cook. Subsequent to this expiration Mr. Cook was elected to serVe as a member of the City Council. As member of the Council Mr. Cook is not eligible for re-appointment to the. Parks and Recreation Commission. Therefore the staff advertised to fill this vacancy on the commission. The City received letters of interest from five citizens expressing a desire to serVe on the Parks and Recreation Commission. These five individuals were invited to interview before the Personnel Committee regarding their interest and qualifications to serve. Interviews were held February 11, 2003 and two applicants were unable to be present for the interViews, Laurie Dustin and Karen Green. These two applicants will be interviewed at the February 25, 2003 meeting. The Personnel Committee, in consultation with the review panel, should determine whiCh of the candidates is best suited at this time to serve a four-year term ending October 31, 2006. With this appointment, the Parks and Recreation Commission will have a full complement of seven members. Included with this packet are copies of the letters of interest, a brief background summary for each applicant and recommended questions for the panel to ask. The review panel will be composed of the Personnel Committee, the Chair and Vice Chair of the Commission and an ex- officio staff member. Committee Action: Motion to recommend that the City Council appoint the Parks and Recreation Commission serving a full four-year term ending October 3 l, 2006. to Council Action: Approve the Personnel Committee recommendation to appoint to the Parks and Recreation Commission to a full four-year term ending October 31, 2006.
