-4- <br /> <br />8) Bill Huttinger <br /> <br />Councilmember Kurak stated that Dick Kruger has been trying for many years to be appointed to <br />the Planning Commission and has strong building background that could be very beneficial to the <br />Planning Commission. She also felt that Bill Huttinger and Deborah Shepherd were strong <br />candidates; <br /> <br />Planrdng Commissioner Kociscak stated that he scored four of the candidates the same, two of <br />them being male and two female. He stated that- he would vote for one of the females because <br />currently the Planning Commission is comprised of only males. <br /> <br />Councilmember Zimmerman agreed. <br /> <br />Councilmember Strommen also agreed. <br /> <br />Councilmember Kurak stated that Deborah Shepherd would be her selection amongst the woman <br />candidates. <br /> <br />Councilmember Elvig stated that he felt that both female candidates were very good, but felt that <br />Dick Kruger would be an excellent choice to fill the position. <br /> <br />Councilmember PearsOn stated that he liked Laurie Dustin's approach, but experience wise he <br />felt that Mr. Krueger was the best candidate. <br /> <br />Councilmember Strommen stated that there are different areas of experience that can be a benefit <br />to the Commission. In her opinion she felt that Ms. Shepherd would be able to add some <br />diversity to the Commission. <br /> <br />Councilmember Elvig stated that if there is a feeling that they need to balance the gender gap he <br />felt that they should address that issue first. <br /> <br />Councilmember Zimmerman felt that there was a need to balance the gender gap. <br /> <br />Planning Commissioner Kociscak agreed. <br /> <br />Councilmember Strommen stated that she felt that the gender gap is an issue especially when <br />there are a lot of good candidates to consider. <br /> <br />Motion by Councilmember Elvig, seconded by Councilmember Zimmerman, to recommend that <br />the City Council appoint Deborah Shepherd to fill the vacancy on the Planning Commission. <br /> <br />Motion carried. Voting Yes: Mayor Gamec, and Councilmembers Elvig, Zimmerman, <br />Strommen, and Planning Commissioner Kociscak.
