PLACEMENT OF .POLITICAL'SIGNS This informa:tion sheet.has been prepared as an aid to candidates for public office, and' :.their volunteer.committees, fo~ the placement of ca'm:~aign .signs. State.law prohibits -the .placement of'signs on public.right-of:way:an'dlin some cases'.thedetermination of right,of-way lOcation.has been difficult for. candidates and'their committees. . The.following informa~tior~.iS intended to' assist you.in locating signs, arid wi[l be'used l~y" '.-: I county.personnel ~. controlling sign placement. Generally, if we receive' a complaint 'about- a sign on county rig.ht-of-way, those signs are '!nspeoted, 'the candidate Is.' 'contacted if possible' and asked to remove the. signs, ~f. the signs.are'-not removed o'r the contact to t-he candidate car.~not be made, the highway cl~partm'ent will remove the signs andstore them at the Highway. Do not attach sigr~s to any traffic control devices such as Signal poles., s~gna.'l boxes, or sign.posts. Campaign s~gns attached to these devices .will. be removed. by ACHD without notification to the candidate. 2. Power poles and.fences are usually.located on, or near, the right-of-way lines' a-~d are therefore a good reference for the width of highway'right-of-way. 'When locating a sign-on.the side Of the road opposite the .power poles, or fence, maintain the same distance from roadway centedine as on the side wi~h the poles Or fence.. .,. .. -3. On '~mproved county roads, in other words those roads with paved' shoulders, .generally 40 feet or more in width .and where no fences or.power poles 'exist, please.use 50 feet from the centedine as a gu!deline for ~nstalling.c~mpaign signs. .On unimproved county roads,, generally 1:hose.in the neighborhood of 22 -.30 teet in width, .use a diStance of'at least 33 .feet from the centerline fOr'the placement of signs. . 4'..
