I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I REQUEST ANOKA COUNTY TO CHANGE THE HOURS OF REDUCED SPEED LIMIT OF 35 MILES PER HOUR TO 8:00 AM TO 6:00 PM, MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY, IN THE RAMSEY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL ZONE OF COUNTY ROAD 5 (NOWTHEN BOULEVARD) By: James F. Way, Police Chief Background: In 2002, Anoka County changed the speed limit and times in the school zone located in front.ofRamsey Elementary School from 45 MPH, 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. (Monday- Friday) to 35 MPH, 9:15 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and 4:15 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday tha'ough Friday. This change has created significant confusion for citizens and challenge for enforcement of the reduced speed during these limited times. This issue was preseated to Council earlier this year and consensus was to request that the time of the reduced speed be changed to cover the entire school day. A letter to the Anoka County Commissioners and Anoka County Highway Department has been prepared and is attached that supports the Police Department's concerns with the current times posted for reduced speed in the school zone. A resolution that would be enclosed with the letter is before you this evening for consideration.
