INTRODUCE ORDINANCE TO CHANGE STREET NAMES IN HIGHLANDS AT <br />RIVER PARK AND HIGHLANDS AT RIVER PARK 2ND ADDITION; <br /> CASE OF CITY OF RAMSEY <br /> By: Community Development Director Sylvia Frolik <br /> <br />Background: <br /> <br />In the recorded plats of Highlands at River Park and Highlands at River Park 2nd Addition, there <br />is a North Yakima Court N.W. on the north side of 155th Lane N.W. and a South Yakima COurt <br />N.W. on the south side of 155th Lane N.W. <br /> <br />Observations: <br /> <br />The Ramsey Police Department has received information from 911 Central Communications that <br />prefacing Yakima Court N.W. with a 'north' and 'south' designation is problematic to their <br />system and emergency responders. First of ail, there is a Yakima Street on the County gri'd <br />system with a range of house numbers. If Ramsey retains the North and SOuth Yakima Courts, <br />the County' has to add two more variations of Yakima' to their system, with a small range of <br />house numbers because these will be the only two north and south Yakima courts in the County. <br />In addition, in emergency situations it is not unusual for a caller to say they live north or south on <br />Yakima; it takes valuable time for Central Communications to verify if the emergency is on <br />North or South Yakima, or just Yakima. If they do not take the time to verify, an emergency <br />responder could be sent to North Yakima Court only to find out that the call was on the north end <br />of Yakima, not necessarily North Yakima Court. <br /> <br />Consequently, Anoka Central Communications is requesting that the City take the necessary <br />steps to eliminate the 'north' and 'south' preface from Yakima Court N.W. in Highlands at River <br />Park. <br /> <br />Changing a street name requires adoption of an ordinance by City Council. Neither of the above <br />streets have homes that are occupied and no residents will be impacted by the modification to the <br />street names.
