CASE # Cf

CONSIDER CHANGE ORDER FOR IP 05-41 WATER SUPPLY WELLS 7 & 8 .
By: Leonard Linton, Civil Engineer II

Background:

The Comprehensive Water System Study was completed in 2004 to help the city
establish priorities, plan, fund and implement improvements to the Municipal water
supply system. The Study identified the need to add wells 7 and 8 to keep pace with the
demand as new homes are constructed and added to the system.

Wells 7 is ready for installation of the pump. The driller is performing the test pumping
for well 8. The results of the pumping indicate Well 8 is capable of producing at a higher
capacity than anticipated due to the rock formation and the skill of the driller. The bids
anticipated installing a pump with a capacity of 1000 gallons pet minute(gpm). The test
pumping has gone up to 1900 gpm without exceeding the limit for sand or impacting
adj acent City Wells. Realizing this capacity, the equivalent of a second well, will require
changing the size oftlle electrical wires, control panel and pump for this well. The
Contractor has providbd an estimate of $50,000 for this work. The initial contract for this
well was $347,000, a~proving this change order will provide a significant increase in
capacity for approximately 15% of the cost of a new well.

Funding Source: I . .

i
The funding soorce Will be the Water Utility Fond.

Staff Recommendatrn:

Staff recommends approving this change order for Well No.8 in the amount of $50,000
to increase the size o:flthe pump and associated controls.

Council Action:

I

Motion to approve c~ange order for Well No.8.

Reviewed by:
Finance Director
Interim City Admini~trator
Director of Public Works/ Principal City Engineer
CC: 5/22/07

-135-
