CASE #3

NOW AND THEN ESTATES STREET IMPROVEMENTS
By: Steven Jankowski, City Engineer

Background:

At the April 18, 2006 Public Works Committee meeting the subject of the reconstruction
of Garnet Street and 168th Avenue located in the Now and Then Estates subdivision was
discussed with the Committee. This subdivision is adjacent to the Brookfield Addition
which is served with municipal sanitary services. At that time Mr. John Peterson of
Oakwood Land Development indicated that he had spoken with the property owners
within Now Then Estates and had reached a verbal understanding with approximately
80% of them favorable to redevelopment. Mr. Peterson indicated at that time that he .
would be in a position to continue the process of addressing the redevelopment later in
the summer of 2006. The housing market slowed considerably after this meeting and
there has been no further progress toward redevelopment of the subdivision.

Both Gamet Street and l68th Avenue continue to remain in poor condition and staffis
interested in determining the wishes of the subdivision residents relative to addressing
street improvements. While no complaints or requests for street improvements have been
received, staff is inte~ested in whether the Committee would like to invite a dialog with
the residents regarding a future course of action.

Action:

Based upon di'CUssiOrl .

Reviewed By:
Public Works Director/Principal Engineer
. I
Street SupervIsor :
I

PW: 05/15/07

-169-
