I <br />,I <br /> I <br />'1 <br /> <br /> AUTHORIZE HIRE OF PATROL OFFICER <br /> <br /> By: Givonna Reed, Interim Human Resources Manager <br /> <br />Background <br /> <br />On April 25, 2003 Officer Greg Sullivan submitted his letter of resignation effective May <br />9, 2003. Sta,ff is requesting authorization to fill the Patrol Officer position left vacant by <br />Mr. Sullivan s resignation. <br /> <br />At its November 2002 meeting, the City Council authorized staff to begin recruiting to <br />fill Patrol Officer left vacant by a series of internal promotions that began with the a <br />retirement of the former Police Chief. Gina Wieler Was hired asa result of the <br />recruitment process. <br /> <br />Because the most recent recruitment process for a Patrol Officer began just six months <br />ago, and in order to maximize the City's investment of staff time and money, staff <br />revisited the list of candidates from the November 2002 recruitment process. <br />Subsequently, staff began discussions with Ryan Law, a finalist from the November 2002 <br />recruitment process, regarding his interest in the position. Mr. Law confirmed his interest <br />in the position. A pre-employment background investigation was conducted by the police <br />department. Mr. Law's backgronnd investigation, psychological and physical agility <br />exams were all reported as satisfactory. Mr. Law has been scheduled for a pre- <br />employment physical and drug/alcohol screen. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Staff Recommendation <br /> <br />Staff recommends that Greg Sullivan's resignation be accepted. Staff further <br />recommends that Ryan Law be hired to fill the vacant Patrol Officer position at an annual <br />rate of $42,455. All other personnel policies and LELS contract provisions will apply <br />normally. This appointment is contingent upon a satisfactory pre-employment physical <br />and drug/alcohol screen. Mr. Law would begin employment with the City on or near <br />May 19, 2003. <br /> <br />Committee Action: <br /> <br />Motion to recommend that the City Council accept Greg Sullivan's resignation <br />fi'om his position as Patrol Officer with the City of Ramsey. <br /> <br />Motion to recommend that the City Council hire Ryan Law as a Patrol Officer at <br />$42,455 annually. All other personnel polices will apply normally.
