CONSIDER PROPOSED GAS FRANCHISE ORDINANCE WITH <br />CENTERPOINT ENERGY <br /> By: Diana Lund, Finance Officer <br /> <br />Background: <br /> <br />Before any ordinance implementing a franchise fee can be adopted, a gas/electric <br />franchise ordinance with the gas/electric company needs to be in place. <br /> <br />Ordinance 84-4A was granted to North Central Public Service on May 24, 1984.. This <br />ordinance established a natural gas franchise with the Company we now know as <br />Centerpoint Energy, but the terms made no mention of a possible franchise fee. <br />Franchise fee terms were clearly stated in the Connexus Energy and City of Anoka <br />Electric Ordinance adopted November 24, 1992. <br /> <br />Recommendation: <br /> <br />Staff recommends scheduling a public hearing to introduce a gas franchise ordinance <br />with Centerpoint Energy. <br /> <br />Council Action: <br /> <br />Motion to schedule public hearing to introduce Ordinance #03-XX establishing a Gas <br />Franchise with Centerpoint Energy. <br /> <br />Reviewed by: <br />City Administrator <br /> <br />FC: 5/27/03 <br /> <br />-209- <br /> <br /> <br />
