CASE # I

REQUEST TO VACATE A PORTION OF WILLE MITE STREET
By: Steven Jankowski, City Engineer

Background:

On June 4, 2007 staffreceived the attached letter dated May 30, 2007 from Mrs. Linda
Stenquist property owner at 15240 Willemite Street petitioning the City for the vacation
of a cuI de sac which was platted in 1972 as a part of the Greenland Hills subdivision but
was never constructed. This street does not require a cuI de sac since Willemite Street
intersects with 152nd Lane as is evident from the attached site location map.

Staff would have no objection to the vacation of a portion of the cuI de sac for this
reason. However, it will be necessary to retain at least a 66 foot right of way through the
Willemite/152nd Lane comer alignment. In addition, the current Capital hnprovement
Plan anticipates the realignment ofVariolitelUranimite Street as a collector street into the
Town Center. Attached is an excerpt from the CIP showing this anticipated Collector
Street. Since no detailed design work has been for this alignment has been prepared at
this time, staff would point out that it may be advisable to retain the easternmost 40 feet
ofthis dedicated right of way in the event that the centerline of the final alignment would
shift to the section line.

Recommendation:

Staff recommends the cross hatched portion of the Willemite Street cuI de sac as
identified on the figure entitled "CuI de Sac Petitioned for Vacation" be recommended
by the Committee to the City Council for vacation and that staffbe directed to initiate
vacation procedures for this portion of right of way.

Action:

Motion to recommend to City Council that the cross hatched portion of the Willemite
Street cuI de sac as identified on the figure entitled "CuI de Sac Petitioned for Vacation"
be recommended for vacation by the Committee to the City Council and that staffbe
directed to initiate vacation procedures for this portion of right of way.

Reviewed by:
Director of Public Works/Principal City Engineer
Community Development

PW: 06/19/07

1
