The leave of absence for Mr. Moldenhauer is Police <br />Chief Way's recommendation to the Council. <br />Chairperson Jeffrey stated his belief is if a person is not a good employee staff would have dealt <br />with that in another way before it came to this type of request. <br />Councilmember Dehen inquired about the ability to terminate someone that is not seen as a <br />desirable employee. <br />Police Chief Way stressed the need for documentation in order to do this. <br />Councilmember Dehen indicated the potential concern is with someone that is not thought of as a <br />good employee in the Chief's opinion who wants to take a leave of absence. <br />Police Chief Way replied if he did not think the employee. was worthy of the leave it would be <br />his decision as a department head. <br />Councilmember Olson stated she has used leaves of absence like this for educational purposes, <br />and it is pretty standard. The leave does not need to be granted if it would cause undue hardship <br />on the department. <br />• Councilmember Dehen asked what will be done within the department during Mr. <br />Moldenhauer's absence. <br />Police Chief Way replied there is a reserve officer that has finished his schooling and would be <br />interested in a non -paid intern position during the summer. This would be a great thing for the <br />City and for the reserve officer that can use the experience on his resume. <br />Motion by Councilmember Olson, seconded by Chairperson Jeffrey, to recommend that the City <br />Council grant an eight -week leave of absence to Drew Moldenhauer to attend Skills_ Training. <br />Motion carried. Voting Yes: Chairperson Jeffrey, Councilmembers Olson and Dehen. Voting <br />No: None. <br />Case #2: Consider Allowing City Employees to Volunteer with Habitat for Humanity <br />HRA Executive Director Frolik reviewed that Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity is planning to <br />build 24 townhouses in Ramsey over the next three years in Town Center Gardens 3 rd Addition. <br />She stated Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity has gathered support from local congregations, <br />businesses and individuals to create the Habitat Partnership of Northwest Anoka County <br />.(HPAC). The partnership will help with fundraising, community engagement and volunteer <br />recruitment. Ms. Frolik stated staff is proposing that the City Council extend an opportunity to <br />City employees to volunteer with Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity for the construction of the <br />Ramsey townhouses.
