Councilmember Olson stated skate boarding is not a recent phenomenon, it has been around for a
long time.

Councilmember John Dehen asked what the elevation ofthe sliding hill at Alpine Park was.

Parks Supervisor Riverblood stated the run is fairly long and it goes from the top ofthe hill to the
wetland area (160 feet). He stated they plan on putting in some pine trees up there for aesthetics
along with a light for the sledders. He stated they were talking about putting in a parking area in
that area anyways because parents do not want to walk all the way from the current parking lot to
the sliding hill.

Chairperson Johns indicated $75,000 will get them started on the park improvements. They will
also need to phase in the future improvements to Alpine Park over a number of years.

Case #3:

Joint City Council Commission Discussion

. Update on Mississippi River Trail

Parks Riverblood updated the Council and Commission on the Mississippi Trail improvements
and connections.

Mayor Gamec asked why they considered the wayside rest as a City facility instead of a MnDot
facility.

Parks Supervisor Riverblood indicated it was a mapping error.

Parks Supervisor Riverblood indicated what is coming to the forefront is the Mississippi River
Trail. He stated there have been a number of States and organizations building trails along the
river and they are fairly close to a continuous trail from the headwaters of the Mississippi to New
Orleans, in part due to all of the negative things that have happened in New Orleans, President
Bush's Administration has announced that they want to see a continuous trail from New Orleans
to the Headwaters so there is actually money expected to rise to the forefront.

. Linking the City of Anoka to Ramsey through Kings Island

Parks Supervisor Riverblood stated this has been worked on for nearly ten years and it was
considered medium priority and are now a high priority project when the monies come through.

Chairperson Johns wondered if that was because they already have plans in place.

Parks Supervisor Riverblood indicated that was correct. He stated they have nine out of ten
points that relate to this segment.

Chairperson Johns stated her husband is an avid biker and having a trail like that would be great
where anyone could hop on and ride down to different cities.

Park and Recreation Commission/June 14, 2007
Page 4 of5
