PUBLIC HEARING <br />BOARD OF ADJUSTMENT <br />CITY OF RAMSEY <br />ANOKA COUNTY <br /> STATE OF MINNESOTA <br /> <br />The Ramsey Board of Adjustment conducted a public hearing on Tuesday, October 21, 1997, at the <br />Ramsey Municipal Center, 15153 Nowthen Boulevard NW, Ramsey, Minnesota to hear input <br />regarding a request for a height variance to construct an office and warehouse facility in the Business <br />Park; case of Northern Airgas. <br /> <br />Members Present: <br /> <br />Chairperson Benjamin Deemer <br />Board Member David Bawden <br />Board Member Sharon Jensen <br />Board Member Charles LaDue <br />Board Member Michael Terry <br />Board Member Bradley Thorud <br /> <br />Members Absent: <br /> <br />Board Member Paul Holland <br /> <br />Also Present: <br /> <br />Zoning Administrator Sylvia Frolik <br />City Engineer Steven Jankowski <br /> <br />CALL TO ORDER <br /> <br />Chairperson Deemer called the special meeting to order at 6:10 p.m. <br /> <br />PRESENTATION <br /> <br />Zoning Administrator Frolik stated that the applicant has applied for a site plan approval to construct <br />an office and warehouse facility in the Business Park. The subject property is located in the Industrial <br />District, for which there is a 35-foot height restriction. The design of the facility includes a <br />warehouse section that is 42'6" from grade. <br /> <br />Zoning Administrator Frolik reported that property owners in excess of the 350-foot distance <br />requirement were notified of the public heating. She explained that the main purpose &the 35-foot <br />height restriction is based on the reach capabilities of fire suppression equipment. The City's Fire <br />Chief has reviewed the plans and indicates that adequate fire suppression can be extended to the <br />warehouse portion of the building from adjacent rooftops. <br /> <br />CITIZEN INPUT <br /> <br />Ted Erkenbrack, Northern Airgas, Inc., displayed architectural sketches of the proposed building. <br />He stated the front of the building was designed to mask the back of the building. <br /> <br />Public Hearing/Board of Adjustment/October 21, 1997 <br /> Page I of 2 <br /> <br /> <br />
