COMMISSION BUSINESS

Case #1:

Review Titterud Park Improvements

Parks Supervisor Riverblood stated the replacement of the playground at Titterud Park was
approved last year. The equipment has been installed and staff has been finalizing the
improvements. He reviewed the playground replacements within the park with the Commission.
He noted that with the help of North Country Concrete as well as AME and SAFTRUX who
contributed time and donated materials they were able to get the project done on time and within
budget.

Commissioner Erickson thought the park looked great and fit perfectly with the trees.

Parks Supervisor Riverblood stated they went to great effort to make sure the playground
equipment fit within the trees without impacting or removing any trees. He noted they may be
donating some of the old playground equipment to Youth First along with using the round Merry
Go Round equipment at Rivers Bend Park, ifthey can remove it all without damage.

Parks Supervisor Riverblood stated they used pervious concrete for use as the sidewalk to the
park. He gave a demonstration to the Commission on how the concrete allows percolation of the
water which benefits the rooting zone of the trees.

The Commission felt the park was completed very well and complimented staff on a job well
done.

Case #2:

Ratify Nowthen Boulevard Trail Improvements

Civil Engineer Linton indicated staff recommends ratifying the action to construct the trail on the
east side ofNowthen Boulevard from Alpine Drive to Lord of Life Church.

Commissioner Shryock wondered why they were bringing the trail all the way up to Alpine.

Civil Engineer Linton stated this is a busy area and they wanted to connect all the intersections so
there is not any cutting across County Road 5 and the fields to get to the current trail without a
crosswalk.

Parks Supervisor Riverblood stated they do not currently have anything south of Sunwood Drive
so this will aid in connecting neighborhoods.

Commissioner Shryock stated they currently do not have a trail south of Lord of Life and she
wondered when they will get a trail in there.

Parks Supervisor Riverblood stated they are working with the County and Anoka to find out
when Hwy 47 will be reconstructed and if the alignment will change before they go forward with
a trail south of there. Further, a realignment may be an opportunity to plan for a pedestrian

Park and Recreation Commission/July 12, 2007
Page 2 of 5
