Councilmember Strommen. <br /> <br />COUNCIL BUSINESS <br /> <br />Case #1: <br /> <br />Public Hearing: Application for Off-Sale Wine License l\1idwest Wines; <br />Case of Midwest Wines Inc. <br /> <br />Mayor Garnec closed the regular portion of the City Council meeting at 7:08 p.m. in order to <br />conduct a public hearing. <br /> <br />Public Hearin!! <br /> <br />Mayor Garnec called the public hearing to order at 7:08 p.m. <br /> <br />Presentation <br /> <br />Interim City Administrator Nelson stated Steven and Michelle L.e Roy, known as Midwest Wines <br />Inc., have applied for an' off-sale intoxicating liquor license to sell wine Jlt13959 St. Francis <br />Boulevard NW.. This is the former Hot Stop site.. Thisisarequest for an~wbusiness. The <br />background investigationhas been completed and everythingis found to be in order. Ms. Nelson <br />indicated she and Police Chief Way will.sumd for questions. <br /> <br />Councilmember Jeffrey verified with Interim City AdministratorNelson thatthis is located on <br />the comer of Highway 47and.Bunker Lake Boulevard. <br /> <br />Councilmember Dehen questioned why the City does not require dram shops to obtain more than <br />$50,000 of liquor liability insurance. He explained based. on .personal experi~nce, when people <br />are innocently injured, perhaps by illegal sales to minors or to a person that is intoxicated, the <br />injuries are quite often devastating and catastrophic. He feels that the requirement for $50,000 <br />requires these dram shops to have inadequate insurance.
