<br />Councilmember Strommen introduced the following resolution and moved for its adoption: <br /> <br />RESOLUTION #07-07-162 <br /> <br />RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING EXECUTION OF AGREEMENT WITH THE <br />MINNESOTA DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY FOR 2008 PARTICIPATION IN <br />THE SAFE AND SOBER COMMUNITIES PROGRAM <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Ramsey Police Department has in previous years participated in the <br />Minnesota Safe and Sober Project, receiving grant money for the education and enforcement of <br />DWI, Speed, and Seatbelt laws. In order to do this, the City of Ramsey has entered into <br />contractual agreements with the State of Minnesota to receive grant money; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Ramsey Police Department would like to participate in the 2008 Safe <br />and Sober Campaign. A grant is being prepared by the Coon Rapids Police Department of which <br />the Ramsey Police Department would like to partner with. If awarded the grant, all the police <br />departments involved would receive sufficient funding to cover officer overtime expenses to <br />participate in the required Safe and Sober wave sessions; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the State of Minnesota is requiring a resolution from Council authorizing <br />the execution of an agreement with the Department of Public Safety for the 2007 participating in <br />project SAFE AND SOBER COMMUNITIES to commence October 1,2007 through September <br />30, 2008. <br /> <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />RAMSEY, ANOKA COUNTY, STATE OF MINNESOTA, as follows: <br /> <br />1. That the Ramsey Police Department enter into a grant agreement with the Minnesota <br />Department of Public Safety, Office of Traffic Safety, for the project entitled SAFE & <br />SOBER COMMUNITIES during the period from October 1, 2007 through September 30, <br />2008. <br /> <br />2. That the Ramsey Chief of Police is hereby authorized to execute such agreements and <br />amendments as are necessary to implement the project on behalf of the Ramsey Police <br />Department in cooperation with the Anoka County Sheriff s Department. <br /> <br />The motion for adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Councilmember <br />Jeffrey and upon vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor thereof: <br /> <br />Mayor Gamec <br />Councilmember Strommen <br />Councilmember Jeffrey <br />Councilmember Dehen <br />Councilmember Elvig <br />Councilmember Look <br />Councilmember Olson <br /> <br />Resolution #07-07-162 <br />Page 1 of2 <br />
