(Ramsey should be pretty well covered on that now). This is something the Fire Deparm~ent will
go after - it is a selling point to our public. It's easier to justify equipment purchases also.

Mr. Schroeder added that when we get the new water tower in 1999, Mr. Jankowski cannot even
compute the water flow.

BOARD INPUT

1) Satellite Fire Station

Mr. Schroeder stated that he has talked with Federal Hoffman again about land and they have said
no. What we had drawn up for them was a station on the comer of 161st and Variolite. They did
not want to give up the comer but will look at another location so we will do that. We will draw
one up by the wetland and another one right next to Central Park and 161st. He mentioned some
land on the other side of Variolite as well. Intern Dave Chmielewski will look at this property to
see if it's a site that could be worked with. If we are looking at a 1998 construction, we are
running out of time. Mr. Chmielewski will get something out on this within a couple of weeks and
we should hear back a couple weeks later.

2) Fire Coverage for Burns

Mr. Schroeder stated that Bums has suggested that maybe the Ramsey Fire Department should
cover their township. He did not know if that would be something the Department would want to
do right now or not.

Chief Kapler expressed concern with having the City's fire fighting vehicle out of the City limits.

Mr. Schroeder added that this is kind of a rumor. He has not talked with anyone in authority about
this but said this may be something to start thinking about and that maybe Central Park is not the
best location for a second station.

Councilmember Beyer questioned if the Department would want to take on Bums now - that is a
growing community also.

Mr. Schroeder speculated that if Chief Kapler was asked that today, he would hesitate.

Chief Kapler responded, absolutely. He did not want to push away opportunities but it is not a
good idea at this time.

Boardmember Weiss reiterated that it's not safe to send our fire fighting vehicle to another city.

Mr. Schroeder suggested this could maybe be the plan for the year 2000 or so.

Chief Kapler asked what would initiate that.

Mr. Schroeder stated that we could make the phone call, but he would prefer they would instead.

Chief Kapler stated that if we do put up an extra building, we want to do as much as we can.

Boardmember McLaughlin commented on the resources in Bums. He then asked if this would be
a revenue generator or a drain.

Councilmember Beyer thought that it should be a break even sort of thing but possibly a little
revenue could be generated.

Fire Board/February 4, 1997
