Park and Recreation Commissioner Droegemueller - The Park and Recreation Commission is
looking at a nature area. That wetland area will not be developed. We will eventually add an
interpretive center with some signs that might explain what's along the trail. We will construct the
area. The design of the park to the east will be left untouched.

Jill Hanson: Why not make a park on both sides. I have trees and wildlife that I don't want
disturbed. That's why I moved out here.

Parks/Utilities Supervisor Boos - We know it doesn't work to have a major thoroughfare dividing
a park - plus the park area is too long and narrow.

Park and Recreation Commission Chairperson Cook: The plan for the subdivision is sensitive to
the trees. Most of the trees will be preserved and there are restrictions that say you have to replace
tree for tree.

Yun Hui Hermanson, 15115 Garnet Street NW, Ramsey: If you make a walk path, do you have
to take a piece of land?

Mr. Boos: There is a corridor toward the corner of the Waste Management area.

Dell Wissler, 6614 - 153rd Lane NW, Ramsey: I just moved out here and was shocked to find this
land is for sale. I thought it was not supposed to be developed for 99 years. There are 23 homes
on 153rd Lane. You want to put 23 homes adjacent - you cannot do that because you cannot build
in this area (pointing to map). Everyone who lives here has one, or three or five acres. These
homes will be on a quarter acre.

Mr. Schroeder: I did not say the lots would be matched up in size. They would be matched up in
volume.

Mr. Struwve: That was one of my concerns - small lots. You will get North Minneapolis moving
out here. By not developing any more water and sewer lots, we would do what the Met Council
says.

Mr. Schroeder: No - the Met Council has the opposite opinion. They have said in their
development concepts that two-thirds of Ramsey should be urbanized.

Mr. Wissler: Like Brooklyn Center?

Mr. Schroeder: Yes.

Mr. Wissler: It's too nice here to be like that.

Mr. Struwve: The neighbors do not want this area - not even the park. People want more of a
natural area. Wasn't Titterud Park supposed to be more of a park with ball fields, etc.?

Resident: Where will the revenue come from?

Mr. Cook: It will be funded from the development and from the tax base of this new development
and new businesses. Maintenance for everything comes in like this.

Resident: Who will take care of this park? What will the cost be to maintain the park?

Resident: I moved here for peace and quiet.

Alpine Neighborhood Meeting/January 2, 1997
Page 2 of 7
