CITY OF RAMSEY
' Year 2000 Required Supplementary Information
.The City of Ramsey is currently addressing year 2000 issues relating to its computer systems and other
electronic equipment. The year 2000 issue refers to the fact that many computer programs use only the last
two digits to refer to a year. Therefore, both 1900 and 2000 would be referred to as "00." Computer
programs have to be adjusted to recognize the difference between those two years or the programs will fail
or create errors. Also, some programs may not be able to recognize that 2000 is leap year. Further, the year
2000 issue could affect electronic equipment -such as environmental systems, elevators, and vehicles -
containing computer chips that have date recognition features.
' The City has assigned the responsibility of addressing the year 2000 issue to the Administrative Assistant
and a team of staff that includes a representative from each department. At this time, the City is still looking
to hire a consultant to assist in addressing this problem. The City's Y2K team is responsible for identifying
' the computer systems and pieces of electronic equipment that are critical to conducting the City's operations
that need to be year 2000 compliant.
The City is in the process of documenting and completing an inventory of its critical systems and electronic
equipment that are not Y2K compliant. The City intends to have this entire project complete before the
December 31, 1999 deadline.

-120-
