Mr. Jankowski stated that beginning
in fall 1995, the City undertook the preparation of a corridor study for T.H. #47. As a result of
the study process, the Council determined that the improvement of the segment between
C.S.A.H. //5 and 142nd avenue was a high priority and advised that MnDOT had a fund for
projects on State Highways which were specifically requested by local units of government.

Councilmember Haas Steffen asked Mr. Coughlin if MnDOT has talked about long term plans
for T.H.//47. Have they talked about a north/south route or are they satisfied that T.H.//47 can
do what it's supposed to.

Mr. Coughlin replied he is not sure as he works in the State Aid office and not planning. He has
heard some discussion about the turning back of T.H. #47 to the County. Turn-back projects had
been very active in the last three to four years, but at the present time, turn-back funds are spent
out to about the year 2000.

Road and Bridge Committee/May 19, 1997
