She inquired who the City should <br />talk to about the entire T.H. #47 corridor. <br /> <br />Mr. Coughlin stated that the T.H. #47 Manager is Mukhtar Thakur. He's been here a long time <br />and is in the planning and project development area. <br /> <br />Councilmember Haas Steffen inquired how much time we have to decide on this project. <br /> <br />Mr. Jankowski responded that we would have to have the project awarded by June 30, 1998, so it <br />would have to be submitted to MnDOT by about January 1. <br /> <br />City Administrator Schroeder asked about adding extra money to this project. <br /> <br />Mr. Coughlin replied that we need to be able to show additional benefit to the trunk highway <br />system. The second project does not really show a lot of benefit. <br /> <br />Mr. Jankowski stated that the City built a frontage road to take some traffic offofT.H. #47. The <br />highway would benefit from having that signalized to enable people to get back to the frontage <br />road. <br /> <br />Mr. Coughlin commented that they have $3 million a year. The City of Ramsey could have <br />asked for a million dollars and MnDOT could have said their average is $500,000. He suggested <br />talking to Kevin Hoglund. <br /> <br />Councilmember Zimmerman reported that the City has been very staunch about getting rights-of- <br />way - and that is helping out the state. <br /> <br />Councilmember Haas Steffen asked if, on it's own initiative, did Mr. Coughlin see the State <br />doing anything about T.H. #47. <br /> <br />Mr. Coughlin felt if the State was going to do anything, they would be here today. <br /> <br />Discussion ensued relating to a corridor study. Councilmember Haas Steffen commented that we <br />need to try to plan now. <br /> <br />Councilmember Zimmerman reiterated that Ramsey is trying to help out the transportation <br />system. We have fought for this to make sure we have sufficient right-of-way. <br /> <br />Upon inquiry, Mr. Coughlin stated that the City should sit down with MnDOT's planning and <br />pre-design people. <br /> <br />Mayor Gamec stated that the City has made a commitment to its people and if we back out of the <br />projects now, it will be a bad situation.
