BUSINESS APPRECIATION DAY UPDATE By: James D. Gromberg, Economic Development Coordinator CASE #1 Background: The 1997 Business Appreciation Day is set for August 20, 1997, at the Rum River Hills Golf Course with dinner to follow at McDuff's. The City has currently received reservations for the following teams for the event: Teams · Blueline Collision Center - foursome · Blueline Collision Center - foursome · Anoka Area Chamber of Commerce - foursome · Landmark Community Bank - foursome · Diversified Metal Products - foursome · Tautges/Redpath - foursome · USDP - foursome · Kirsch Fabrics - foursome · Anoka Electric Cooperative- foursome · Carbon Products - foursome · JR's - foursome Hole Sponsors · Blueline Collision - pool shot putt from belly on the green Landmark Community Bank - Hole-in-Contest · Ace Solid Waste - Chipping Contest The current schedule will be to have the flyers mailed during the third and fourth week of June, which will allow for 2 months of planning prior to the big event. In addition, the flyer will be inserted in the June issue of the Anoka Area Chamber of Commerce Newsletter. As in the past this has been the primary form of advertising for the event and should provide for the tournament filling out in a fairly quick time period. The EDC will also need to begin the process of soliciting door prizes for the event. In past years, this has been done by dividing the City's commercial areas between different members of the EDC. Though successful in the past the commission may want to develop a system that allows for the each member of the commission to work with businesses that they are familiar or have had a previous relationship. The prizes that are accumulated should be dropped off at City Hall or delivered to the appreciation day event.
