FC CASE

REVIEW AND APPROVE BUDGET AMENDMENT TO INCREASE FUNDING TO
ANOKA-HENNEPIN COMMUNITY EDUCATION
By: Jessie Hart, Finance Officer

Notification:

Steve Kerr, Addie Larson and Jill Prall, of the Anoka-Hennepin ISD #11 Community Education
Department, were in attendance at the February 11, 1997 regular City Council meeting to make
their request for an increase in funding. This item was then placed on the Finance Committee for
February 25, 1997. All have been invited to attend this meeting to answer questions that may
arise.

Background:

The budget request for community education funding that was submitted for, and included in, the
1997 budget, year included approximately 28 hours of programming. At that point, they had
anticipated requesting an increase to 35 hours knowing that the attendance at Ramsey
Elementary would increase significantly with the new addition to the facility.

During the 1997 budget discussions, it was the Council's directive that the budget be approved at
the existing level and any increase in funding be considered after it was known how successful
the increased programming was and whether a request for an increase in funding is substantiated.

As you may recall the City Council was approached on February 11, 1997 by representatives of
the Anoka-Hennepin ISD #11 requesting an increase in funding for community education for the
1996 - 1997 school year. At that time, Steve Kerr, Community Education Manager, presented
the attached memorandums which provide information on the request and an analysis of the
increased costs.

Included in the adopted 1997 budget for community education funding is $15,800 broken down
as follows:

Youth Program $12,000
Summer Program 3,800
Total $15,800

[Note: The actual request was submitted at a total of $14,829 and rounded up in the budget]
