LEASE S I

RECEIVE FIVE-YEAR PARKS CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS PROGRAM
By: Mark Boos, Parks/Utilities Supervisor

Background:

As the Finance Committee is aware, each year the Park and Recreation Commission conducts
discussions, beginning in May, on the five-year Capital Improvements Program (CIP). At the
Commission's August meeting, final amendments are made following the public hearing and the
CIP is forwarded to the Finance Committee.

The first year, in this case 1998, a specific request for funding is made of City Council. The
subsequent years may receive modification or re-prioritization when the plan is revised next - but
nonetheless, is intended to provide reasonable depiction of the next five years.

Observation:

This five-year plan is very similar to last year's plan (although more specific) in that it focuses
largely on our community parks. Enclosed for your information is the recommended 1998 -
2003 five-year CIP ledger and a brief description of the various items by year. One or more Park
and Recreation Commissioners will be present to discuss the CIP requests.

Committee Action:

Motion to recommend City Council approval of the 1998 - 2003 Parks CIP.

Reviewed by:

Parks/Utilities Supervisor
City Administrator
Finance Officer
City Engineer

FC: 08/26/97

/jmt

Copies also distributed to:

Park & Recreation Commission

PKDIP.
