U.S. Dept. of InteTior, 2007 WL 1574588 <br />(8th Cir. 2007) <br /> <br />The 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals has jurisdiction over Arkansas, <br />Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, and South Dakota. <br /> <br />SOUTI-I DAKOTA (06/0l/07)-The Flandreau Santee Sioux Tribe <br />purchased 310 acres adjacent 'EO its reservation in Moody County. The <br />tribe submitted an application with rhe Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) <br />requesting that the U.S. Department of the Interior (Department) take <br />the land into a trust for rhe tribe's benefit in accordance with the In- <br />dian Reorganization Act (Act). Although the tribe had a thriving gam- <br />ing industry on its existing property, it identified future housing de- <br />velopment and agricultural use only as the potential land uses on the <br />new properry. <br />In its application, me tribe srated that it had grown dramatically over <br />the past 30 years, but its land base had not increased.
