Town of West Point, 2007 WL
1933930 (Wis. Ct. App. 2007)

WISCONS1J.'.J (07/0S/07l-During the 2005-06 session of the legislature,
a state law commonly knOVvll as the "smart growth statute" was enacted,
requiring Wisconsin municipalities to develop updated comprehensive land
use plans by 2010. After this statute went into effect, the town of West
Point began updating irs comprehensive plan in conjunction with Colum-
bia County.
In Seprember 2005, the toV\7ll adopted an ordinance that imposed an
18-momh moratorium "on the acceptance, review, and approval by Town
officials, staH, or consultants of any applications for a land division or
subdivision." The purpose of the ordinance was to "eliminate develop-
mem pressures" which the town expected to increase during the plan-
ning process if landowners and developers sought to rush their projects to
completion before the town altered its comprehensive plan.

Contributors
Bethany M; Al!len

The Quiiolan editdr1aland r.nan~ger.nentiea;;"isplE!as~d t~ anpbud~ethatiOe7\1\hflrr.l~rk tbe ';r"r'si:
ful'l yearil'l which we willbe a part of the TbJ.omsan West brandu,rGlily.
