REQUEST FOR AUTHORIZATION TO HIRE AN ASSISTANT CITY ENGINEER By: Givonna Reed Kone, Human Resources Manager Back2:round PC# , As part of the 2007 General Fund Budget the City Council approved the creation of an Assistant City Engineer position. The role of the AssistantCity Engineer position is to provide professional engineering counsel, design and review, as requested; assist with developme,nt of the capital improvements program; and assist with development of a street maintenance program and budget. This position will also supervise the City's two engineering technicians. In June of this year, staff was given authorization to begin the recruitment process for an Assistant City Engineer. Nine individuals were interviewed and staff recommends that the City Council grant authorization to hire Mr. Tim Rimmer as the City's Assistant City Engineer. Fundin2: Source Staff is recommending a 'starting hourly wage of $33.48 for Mr. Rimmer given his experience and market conditions. The breakdown for funding for this position is as follows: approximately 60% will come from the General Fund and the remaining 40% will be covered by billable hours. Staff Recommendation Staff recommends that the City Council grant authorization to hire Mr. Tim Rimmer as the City's Assistant City Engineer pending the results of Mr. Rimmer's background check and pre-employment physical and drug screen. With City Council approval, Mr. Rimmer's start date will be October 1,2007 and his starting wage will be $33.48 per hour. Mr.l-Jimmer will be subject to a six month probationary period and all other personnel policies will apply normally.
