~ Community News ACHS to Offer Fall Tours The Anoka County Histori- cal Society invites the community to accompany them on two very enter- taining and educational tours. Both tours incorporate history and illustrate the linl( that binds us to our past. Yet, each is unique and different in con- tent and approach. The Ghosts of Anoka Tour is a wall(ing tour of downtown Anoka, offered on the first and third Thursday and Saturday of each month through Halloween. Participants enjoy a blend of history and folklore, as they stop before the homes and businesses where eerie and unexplained things have happened. The Monuments to Life Cemetery Tours, on the other hand, celebrate those very real citizens who have gone before us, and have left their mark on our communities. Each year, in October, one cemetery in Anoka and two cemeteries elsewhere in Anoka County are featured. Each of these twilight tours is only offered once, and they fill quickly. This year, The Monuments to Life Tour will begin on Thursday, October 4 at Twin Lakes Cemetery in Bums. Then on Saturday, October 6, the tour will visit Fridsborg Cemetery in East Bethel. A tour of Oakwood Cemetery in Anoka will tal(e place on Tuesday, October 9. All tours start at 7 :00 pm and take about an hour. Tours involve standing outdoors, and wall(ing in dim light, so participants are urged to dress comfortably for the weather. Reservations for either the Ghosts of Anoka tours, or any of the cemetery tours, are required in ad- vance, and are available by phoning the Anoka County History Center at 763-421-0600, or by visiting the His- tory Center at 2135 Third Ave. North in Anoka. Ghosts of Anoka tours cost $6.00 for adults and $3.00 for children. Cemetery tours cost $8.00 for each cemetery or $21.00 for a package that covers all three cemeter- ies. Homeowner Education for Septic Systems Homeowners wanting to bet- ter understand, operate and main- tain their septic systems will want to attend a Homeowner Education for Septic Systems program being presented by the University of Min- nesota Extension. Hear about water saving ideas, find out if you should be using additives, and get your ques- tions answered. This two-hour program will be held Monday, October 15,2007 from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. at Bunker Hills Activities Center, 550 Bunl(er Lal(e Blvd NW, Andover, two miles west of Highway 65 on Bunker Lake Boule- vard. The cost to attend is $5. You will receive the University ofMinne- sota Extension Septic System owner's Guide at the class. Pre-registration is required.
