• National Night Out
Animal Control
Ramsey Police Department Monthly Report
August 2007
General Police Statistics and Highlights
Ramsey's 2007 National Night Out (NNO) city -wide event was celebrated by over 2,900
residents and involved more than 1,700 households. Fifty -three registered NNO block
parties enjoyed visits from the Police and Fire Departments, McGruff and Scruff, and our
City Council. We collected approximately 70 backpacks full of school supplies for needy
children in Ramsey, and 225 lbs. of food for the local food shelf.
• Helicopter Crash in Alpine Park
On August 24 officers were dispatched to a helicopter crash at Alpine Park. Upon
arrival the pilot was found to have been removed from the plane and was conscious. In
speaking with the pilot, he advised that he was contracted by Metropolitan Mosquito
Control and was spraying in an area just north of the park. He encountered a mechanical
failure and maneuvered the helicopter to the area of Alpine Park in an attempt to land, to
prevent crashing in a residential area. It appeared that the helicopter had impact first with
a grassy hill in the park and then landed into the paved parking lot. The FAA, Metro
Mosquito Control, and the Anoka County Sheriff's Department Crime Lab arrived at the
scene. The FAA is investigating the incident.
• 2na Degree Assault with Weapon
On August 30 officers responded to a report of a male threatening to shoot another
male with a shotgun. Witnesses advised that the suspect had a shot gun and had fled the
scene in a vehicle. The vehicle was located and a search warrant was subsequently
obtained. Investigators are currently completing a felony case file to charge the suspect
in this case with 2 Degree Assault.
Seven dogs 'were impounded in August. Three were released to their owners and four
were adopted.
1
