Ramsey Planning Commission
15153 Nowthen Blvd. NW
Ramsey, MN 55303

March 26,1997

Dear Planning Commission,

This letter is in response to the notice we received dated March
18,1997, regarding the request for a conditional use permit to
mine and export earth material from the property of Tom Kurak,
15001Sunfish Lake Blvd.

It would benefit my wife and my self to attend this hearing,
however we will be out of state on our yearly family vacation.

We are requesting that our concerns be addressed during this
hearing: 1) We knew that the Tom Kurak property would likely be
developed for housing in the next 3-5 years. We are not sure that
this mining project would be considered a "preparation step" for a
future housing development. This sounds like more of a
commercial operation on the part of Mr. Kurak. 2) A mining
operation such as this could be considered a burden on the
residents of both of the Fox Knoll developments. Things that really
need to be considered are the environment and natural elements;
including wind and water erosion, sand and dust blowing from the
high winds in this area of Ramsey, the unnecessary destruction of
the wetlands and trees that are a natural habitat for many species
of wildlife. 3) A major concern of ours is the noise level of such an
operation as this. We put up with noise from pumps running
around the clock for our first 8 months in a brand new home. This
was not an enjoyable experience for us or our children. What
would equipment for this type of operation be; unsightly, noisy?
