CASE # .3.

UPDATE ON HIGHLANDS AT RIVER PARK POND
By Steven Jankowski, City Engineer

Background:

Staff has been working with the residents of the lots surrounding the lined pond located
between Xkimo Street, and Yakima Court and Yakima Street in the Highlands at River
Park subdivision to resolve the leaking problem this pond is potentially experiencing. At
the September 18,2007 Public Works Committee meeting Mr. Scott Rothrum a resident
at 15370 Xkimo Street was present to request assistance with obtaining information
regarding the manufacture of the pond liner and also to request continued assistance from
city staff in locating the source of the potential pond leak. The purpose of this case is to
provide an update on the continuing efforts of the City to assist in this matter,

Mr. Rothrum was provided with a contact, the consulting engineer who prepared plans
for th,e subdivision, through whom he has now obtained information as to the,
manufacturer of the pond liner and its warrantee information. Recall that previously staff
had performed a dye test which indicated that the potential leak was likely located in the
northerly section of the pond. Staff has ordered and received additional dye tablets and is
prepared to conduct a second test to more accurately pinpoint the breach location.
However, weather conditions have not been favorable to conducting further testing. The
dye tends to dissipate relatively quickly therefore a calm day with no precipitation is
desired. Staff hopes to complete this testing as soon as weather conditions allow.

We will contact Mr. Rothrum before we conduct the dye testing to allow him to be
present.

Action:

F or informational purposes, no action required.

Reviewed By:
Director of Public Works, Principal City Engineer
Engineering Technician IV

PW: 10/16/07

15
